I was looking through the gamescores site and it wasn’t all that useful so I picked out one of my favorite mods I’ve seen. Halo 3 is a classic game that’ll go down in history as one of the greats. Marty Mcfly, (I kid you not) made this Halo 3 raytracing mod and it looks incredible. The mod brings new life to Halo 3 which released in 2007. The colors and lighting of the mod blow me away when I first saw it. I’ve played Halo 3 multiple times, but with this new raytracing mod, it looked like a brand new game! Halo 3 looked incredible already, but this mod showed me how much this game could be improved. It’s amazing what players are able to do to their favorite games. I just can’t get over how good this actually looks. The mod brought great waves of nostalgia for me, as Halo 3 is one of the games that stuck with me long after I was finished playing it. To see Halo 3 improved like this is absolutely astounding to me after all these years. I know the Halo faithful sure loved it, even playing the game again for the umpteenth time with the mod on I’m sure. I know I would play it over and over i it could look like that. Take a look at the video and tell me that mod isn’t damn beautiful. You’d have to be lying or insane to tell me otherwise. I am so taken with this mod, one of my favorites for sure. It kinda reminds me of GZ DOOM, a Doom mod for the original 1993 game. Robert Zak writes in his article, The Ultimate Guide to Doom Modding: “ If you want to see what a fully modernised Doom looks like, you can do so with GZDoom, which features dynamic lighting, full 3D maps, reflective surfaces, and various filtering options to smooth out animations and textures. Much of this is thanks to the fact that GZDoom uses the OpenGL API, hugely expanding Doom’s technical possibilities.” Just like the Halo 3 raytrace mod, GZ Doom keeps the original game fresh and in the modern era. These mods are mind blowing.
